Un documentario, tutto al femminile, che racconta la Trieste di quegli anni e anche l’America che quelle ragazze hanno trovato, un diario privato che racconta quella che è la nostra storia recente attraverso le voci e le immagini di alcune delle sue protagoniste, cercate e trovate grazie a una fotografia, un nome, un conoscente, un piccolo dettaglio. Un racconto corale intenso ma allo stesso tempo leggero, spesso ironico, che non guarda solo indietro ma suggerisce un possibile incontro fra passato e futuro.

Hour of Code - Friday 4:30- 6:30

Teens, we are holding An HOUR OF CODE Friday afternoon from 4:30 - 6:30 pm at American Corner Trieste.  Open to all Middle and High School Students. 

So far 66 million students around the globe have participated.  Even President Obama tried coding!

Bring a tablet or laptop if you have one.  If not, no problem, we can lend you one.
Certificates for Everybody.
You can leave before 6pm if you have to catch a bus to get home.  The bus strike starts at 6:30.

 Happy Holidays!  We just concluded the Best Thanksgiving Ever thanks to Gabrielle, American Cooking School, our volunteer chefs, clean up crew and band.  – Now we’re working on the December.  The theme for the month is “The Holidays” with a Holiday Matinée Film Series, Short Story, Family Date Night and the big event… Annual Santa Visit and Cookie Fest.  We wish you a season full of peace and joy. 

CLOSED for the HOLIDAYS – We’ll be closed from December 20th – January 7th.  We reopen on January 8th. 

WINTER ENGLISH COURSES

Registration is open for Winter 2015 Courses.  Here are the links for courses for ADULTS and for MATERNA, ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL and HIGH SCHOOL.  Something for all ages and all levels.  Click here to learn more about how our courses work. 

You can still purchase your Memberships for 2014/15.  The prices remain unchanged:  €35 for the Regular Adult Membership and €25 for Students age 16 and over, Teachers and over age 65.  To attend courses, the student (or their parent must be a member).  Membership is valid for checking out books, magazines, DVD’s and for the 2014/15 American Cinema Program in the Original Version at Cinema dei Fabbri from October until May.  Membership is valid one school year and must be renewed annually.  You can register at any time.  MEMBERSHIP CARDS Please pick up your final membership cards in the office during our office hours:  Monday to Friday 4-7 pm and Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9 am until noon.

60th ANNIVERSARY of  ERNEST HEMINGWAY’S NOBEL PRIZE in LITERATURE for The Old Man and the Sea,  Associazione Cinzia Vitale has organized a 1 day event including a conference, readings an exhibit and at the American Corner a projection of the film.  All events are  OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. MOOC – SHAPING THE WAY WE TEACH ENGLISH – The FREE on-Line course for Teachers of English Language Learners, offered by the US Department of State, will be repeated.  The 5 week course begins on January 5, 2015.  Register on-line on this link!

(Yes, we know that Thanksgiving is officially on Thursday, November 27th).   
 
It was so much fun last year, that we’re repeating the format this year! 

LIMITED to 100 participants.  2014/15 MEMBERS ONLY.

RESERVATION and PAYMENT REQUIRED to block your place.
      Contribution €15 for Adults,

      €5 for children age 12 and under. 

The Association will be cooking the Turkeys.  The rest is Potluck 
  • North Americans bring assigned Hors d'oeuvres and Side dishes. 
  • Non-North Americans bring Dessert. 
  • All participants bring beverages (wine or whatever you prefer to drink) and their appetites. 
 Live music by the Five plus One Group with Judy Moss. 

We will need volunteer crews for American Cooking School, Set-up and Clean-up!

A Few Words about our Courses


First A Few Words About Our Courses.

We offer courses at all levels during the ENTIRE year (except August).   Fall and Winter courses  last 12 weeks and Spring 10 weeks.  You can sign up for just one session, or you can continue all year long. 

Our courses are generally practical and conversation oriented, but we also promote reading, listening and writing skills.  We always like to keep things fun and interesting.  You go to school or work all day long, so your English class should be a treat!  For questions about courses and/or levels, please call or stop in the office.

Offriamo corsi a tutti i livelli durante TUTTO l’anno (tranne in agosto).  I corsi d’Autunno e d’Inverno  durano 12 settimane e in Primavera 10 settimane.  Ci si può iscrivere a solo un trimestre, oppure, volendo, continuare tutto l’anno.  I gruppi sono piccoli.  I nostri corsi sono indirizzati verso la conversazione, ma naturalmente promuoviamo anche le abilità di lettura, ascolto e scrittura.  Ci piace rendere le cose divertenti e leggeri.  Si va a scuola o si lavora  tutto il giorno, allora frequentare un corso (sia per lo studente, sia per l’insegnante) dovrebbe essere un piacere!

Per ragazzi sotto i 16 anni, un membro della famiglia deve essere iscritto. Per adulti, ogni partecipante deve iscriversi all’Associazione. Intero- adulto - €35, Ridotto (studenti, insegnanti, ³ 65 anni) - €25.  Vi preghiamo di pagare la quota in sede e di compilare il modulo d’iscrizione.

Membership:

Membership:  All participants must be members of the Associazione Italo Americana del FVG. Adult members:  €35, Students over 16, Teachers, Over 65: €25 Under 16 must have an adult member in the family.  Membership fees should be paid in cash in the office and you need to fill in the membership form.   Members can check out books, DVD’s and magazines, go to the American Film Series, participate in members only activities, receive our monthly newsletter and much more!
