SEPTEMBER
Hello New Members and welcome back, Friends! We are looking forward to a great year full of classes, activities and films. So many of you have already renewed your memberships-- thank you for helping us reach our goal of 600 members this year! We are off to an excellent start!!

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE 2012/13
Thanks to record membership, prices are the same again this year€25 for students, teachers, Over 65, €35 for regular membership. In addition to unlimited use of our Library, membership also includes entrance to the American Film Series at the Ariston, the Made for Each Other series at Cappella Underground, invitations to our special events like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, our newsletter and much more! 

THURSDAY COFFEE BREAK – September 13th 10 – 12 – Open to the Public
Our monthly appointment with a cup of coffee and some great conversation in English.  Meet nice people, speak English and enjoy! Feel free to bring a treat if you’re good at that sort of thing. ;)
FRIDAY AMERICAN EXPERIENCE – Fridays at 6 p.m. – Open to the Public
Our award-winning American Documentary Series is back with a new name:  Friday American Experience.  Every Friday at 6 p.m. you can enjoy an American documentary in English.  Michael has put together another great calendar this year.  We’ll start the season with the Native American Indian theme:
Sept 14th                            Last Stand at Little Big Horn              The battle seen from both points of view
Sept. 21st              Adventurers of the Old West              Meet the great Indian Chiefs
Sept. 29th              Great Indian Wars Part 1                            The initiation of the Indian Wars in 1540
October 6th              Great Indian Wars Part 2                            The bitter conclusion of Indian Wars with Wounded Knee

I ♥ READING SUMMER READING CEREMONY  Wednesday, September 26th at 5 p.m
Our Summer Reading Program was a great success.  The score cards are still on display, but our contest is over. 
I READING brought in lots of young readers and we are really proud of their progress.  We want to thank our Junior Volunteers Nicolò, Teresa, Tiziano, Sofia, Anastasia, Cristina, Virginia, Valentina, and Nagma for doing a fantastic job with Storytime Light!  Thanks for our mother tongue readers too!  Karry, Karoline, Denise, Sofy, Ilaria. 
The Awards and Recognition Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 26th at 6 p.mCome in and meet our kids and readers!  Find out what name we have given to our Bookworm. 

SEPTEMBER HOURS
It is September – back to business!  Monday to Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday mornings 10-12.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are a volunteer-run organization and we have something for everybody:  Front Desk, Library, Accounting, Cinema, Fundraising, Activities. Contact us to volunteer. Join over 40 active volunteers!

A NOTE TO AMERICAN CITIZENS   - Elections are coming up and the rules have changed
You now need to request an absentee ballot for each election.  If you are an American citizen, you have the right to vote even if you have never voted or registered to vote.  This website gives you complete information and walks you through the procedure.  www.votefromabroad.org

We’ve got WI-FI, a quite place to study, a changing table, an Aula Magna, and office space
Thanks to our volunteer Igor, we have Wi-Fi (ask us for info).  We also have a great space if you’re looking to study and get on-line. Our children’s library is a perfect place to read with your children. Moms and Dads, we also have a changing table (a rarity in downtown Trieste!) and a quiet space to feed babies. We rent out our Aula Magna for special events and office space. Talk to Karoline for more info.

THE AMBASSADORS (Formerly Check Six)
If you were away in July, you missed a fantastic concert by the US Air Force Europe Jazz Ensemble now known as The Ambassadors.  T-shirts designed by our one and only Grazia are still available for a donation to the Association and you can enjoy the concert on Facebook at American Corner Trieste.

NEW COURSES STARTING IN OCTOBER
Super Intensive Week was a great success that will be repeated several times this year. Check the blog for details or talk to Karoline. 5% discount for paying courses with bank transfer. Keep an eye on the blog and Facebook for other special offers. We have lots of new things happening this year and can’t wait to tell you about our new courses on September 26! Feel free to call and talk to Karoline if you have any questions about individual or small group classes, your level, etc.
